Oklahoma Agriculture Blog

Oklahoma’s Official Agricultural Information Site

  • Welcome!

Terry Peach, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture

As agriculturists our jobs haven’t changed much from generation to generation but the way we do them sure has! Our roles as providers of the nation’s food and fiber and stewards of the land remain the same but just as we rely on new technologies to become more efficient as producers, we find we now need to find new ways to use them to communicate with each other.

That’s why we have created this blog. Almost 60 percent of the population now depends on the internet for news and other information. The daily and weekly newspapers are still out there (and we still depend on them to reach thousands of Oklahomans) but for all of you who prefer the speed and convenience of electronic communications, this blog is for you.

Let us know what you think and please interact on this site with your thoughts and comments. We are counting on you to let us know what you think and suggest things and ideas that will improve this site and provide you with the information you are looking for.

State Travel and Wineries Featured in Today’s Papers

Posted by carson4575 on April 14, 2009

Today’s Tulsa World ran two excellent stories relating to Oklahoma travel destinations, agritourism and our state wineries. Julie Bisbee (okay, she’s actually a reporter for the Oklahoman but they ran it in the Tulsa World) has a great story stating in the headline that “Oklahoma travel market grows, despite economy.”

Click on the link above for the full story.

In the same issue there is an article headlined, “Wine making blossoms in state.” It lists the names and addresses of 33 different wineries across the state. If you’ve ever considered an Oklahoma winery tour, this would be a great resource!

Posted by carson4575 on January 8, 2009

Abby Cash

Abby Cash

Our Agritourism Director, Abby Cash, sent out an email this afternoon worth sharing:

Dear Friend of Agritourism,

I am in the final stages of development of an updated website with new tools and features for agritourism producers and those interested in industry information (www.oklahomaagritourism.com). One component of that website will be a calendar of events where I will list industry and educational events that may be of interest to agritourism operators.

If you have a workshop, seminar, conference, convention or event hosted by your organization or agency that you would like to list on our website, please send me your event information and I will be sure that it is included on our calendar for 2009.

Best wishes for a prosperous New Year!

Abby
