Oklahoma Agriculture Blog

Oklahoma’s Official Agricultural Information Site

  • Welcome!

Terry Peach, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture

As agriculturists our jobs haven’t changed much from generation to generation but the way we do them sure has! Our roles as providers of the nation’s food and fiber and stewards of the land remain the same but just as we rely on new technologies to become more efficient as producers, we find we now need to find new ways to use them to communicate with each other.

That’s why we have created this blog. Almost 60 percent of the population now depends on the internet for news and other information. The daily and weekly newspapers are still out there (and we still depend on them to reach thousands of Oklahomans) but for all of you who prefer the speed and convenience of electronic communications, this blog is for you.

Let us know what you think and please interact on this site with your thoughts and comments. We are counting on you to let us know what you think and suggest things and ideas that will improve this site and provide you with the information you are looking for.

Blogging with ODAFF

One of the negative aspects of the internet is the ability to remain anonymous and post information that is not true with no fear of the person responsible being held liable.  We are going to be completely transparent here and pledge to back up anything we post and if we make a mistake own up to it and correct it.

There will be multiple people from ODAFF who participate on this blog and we are going to identify each one by name.  There isn’t going to be anything anonymous about this site and one of our goals is to achieve the highest degree of credibility possible.

We know that differences of opinion exist on a multitude of agricultural issues and this is going to stimulate a great deal of discussion.  Let’s accept the fact that the mere fact that people disagree on controversial topics does not necessarily make either side “wrong” or guilty of being untruthful.

This is an opportunity for open communication for all of agriculture and its stakeholders to learn and share ideas and opinions. Hopefully it will also be a good source of timely information for all concerned.

Jack, I think you’re doing a nice job here. I love that you link to other sites – newspapers and other departments. Feel free to call if I can be of assistance!

Let me get this straight. An AG diversification grant is really a loan and the money can’t be used to buy seeds? Does this not seem insane to anyone else?
