Last week Secretary of Agriculture, Terry Peach, Gary Bledsoe and Jack Carson travelled to Guymon for the annual Panhandle Agriculture Appreciation Day celebration. Once again held at the Texas County Activity Center, the event drew a pretty good crowd and was well moderated by ag broadcaster, Ron Hays.
Secretary Peach was keynote speaker and also participated in a panel discussion regarding the future of the Optima Lake and Wildlife Management Area.
Three FFA students were awarded $750 scholarships: Amber Wells of the Guymon FFA, Krysta Gilbert, Hardesty FFA, and Kyle Johnson of Hooker each received scholarships. Don Titus of Crop Production Services accepted the award for top panhandle Agricultural Business of the Year.
