Mike Schulte, Oklahoma Wheat Commission; Anita Poole, AFR General Counsel; and Rick Maloney, ODAFF Marketing Director discussing Farm to School at today's program.
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry thanks American Farmers and Ranchers for the use of their great facility for hosting our summer Farm to School program.
The goal of today’s program was to let state school and college food service personnel meet local farmers and resource people to discuss better ways to introduce and increase the amount of locally grown foods into our school lunch programs.
About 125 people registered for the event with close to equal numbers of school nutrition folks and farmers. Rick Maloney and I attended the morning sessions while Chris Kirby (ODAFF Farm to School coordinator) and Anita Poole (AFR General Counsel and long time Farm to School advocate) co-hosted the program.
To say these folks are passionate about improving our children’s nutritional awareness and the quality of their diets would be an understatement! Our thanks for all the hard work that went into putting this program together and our gratitude to everyone who made the trip to Oklahoma City to participate.
