Fire Situation Report
Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry
Forestry Services
Time Period: 0800 thru 0800, 12/29/08 thru 12/30/08
PROTECTION AREA STATISTICS
NE Area – 3 fires burned 103 acres (Causes: 2-Debris; 1-Incendiary)
EC Area – 1 fires burned 4 acres(Cause: Equipment)

Discussion: Fire activity was light again yesterday. Today relative humidity readings will again be low in the State, with readings in low teens over most of the State. Winds will be stronger than yesterday and gusty at times, into the 20+mph range. The persistent dry air which entered the State yesterday coupled with the winds today will cause any fire which starts today to be resistant to control efforts.
No requests for assistance or reports of fire problems received from outside of the Protection Area.

It is no secret that we had hoped the killer or killers responsible for the death of a Logan County cow would be in custody by now. So far, however, no arrests have been made.
Our Investigative Division continues their efforts to find the criminals and we’re still hoping that $7,500 in reward money will prompt someone to do the right thing and come forward with information. We’ve had some great support from state media in publicizing information about both the crime and the reward. In today’s Journal Record, Brian Brus provides an update from ODAFF Agent, Jerry Flowers.

Fire Situation Report
Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry
Forestry Services
Time Period: 0800 thru 0800, 12/24/08 thru 12/29/08
PROTECTION AREA STATISTICS (Far Eastern Oklahoma Counties Only)
NE Area – 3 fires burned 170 acres (Causes: 2-Incendiary; 1-Equipment)
EC Area – 2 fires burned 5 acres(Causes: 2-Incendiary)
SE Area – 1 fire burned 31 acres (Cause: Incendiary)
Discussion: Fire activity was light during the long Holiday weekend. The substantial rainfall which fell over much of the Protection Area and cool, moist conditions helped minimize fire occurrence.
Throughout the coming week no moisture is anticipated statewide. Today relative humidity readings will be very low in the State, with single digit readings in South Central and Southwest Oklahoma. Winds will be light, but tomorrow winds will pick up in advance of an approaching cold front.
During the time period, no requests for assistance or reports of fire problems received from outside of the Protection Area.
A number of County Burn Bans will either expire today or be renewed at their respective Board of Commissioner’s meeting. Counties under a County Commissioner’s Burn Ban are:

PROTECTION AREA STATISTICS (Far Eastern Oklahoma)

Fire danger will elevate tomorrow and Friday as south winds return.

Some of our offices and the Governor’s office are receiving complaints concerning the Burn Bans in their counties. The main complaints have been that the county is still under a ban despite rainfall received and continued moist conditions.

Working Man’s Quiche
An Original Recipe by Chef Kurt Fleischfresser
Serves 8
This would be a great entrée for a holiday get together or a New Year’s Day brunch.
Ingredients
1 lb. J.C. Potter spicy sausage
1 bunch green onions, sliced and keeping some of the green
1 (8 oz.) Pkg. J-M Farms sliced mushrooms
1 red pepper, roasted, peeled and diced
1 lb. Monterey Jack cheese, grated
2 C. Hiland whipping cream
3 eggs
1 t. dried parlsey
Salt and pepper to taste
1 (15 oz.) refrigerated pie crust.
Preheat oven to 350 F. Brown sausage and drain. In the same skillet, sauté mushrooms and green onions until tender.
In large bowl, mix together sausage, mushrooms, onions, roasted peppers and cheese. In a separate bowl, lightly whip together cream, eggs, parsley, salt and pepper.
Arrange the sausage mixture in the bottom of the pie crust that has been prepared following the manufacturer’s instructions and pour the cream and egg mixture over the top. Bake for about an hour or until the custard has set. Let the quiche cool on a rack and serve warm.
Chef Kurt recommends a Woods & Waters Winery and Vineyard Rose of Caddo as a great accompaniment to this dish.
